I have played this track over, and over, and over again. And it still continues to move me as much as it did the first time I heard it.

about
“89” is the fifth song from my album “A Different Kind of Light”.
This song was recorded in a day at One Eyed Jacks with the brilliant Jack Duxberry.
We opened up the piano, pressed down the soft pedal and set up a load of mics. Then Jack did some fine tape wizardry and I sang it and played a bit of mellotron. It was a cool day.
It’s a song for anyone who has trouble worrying about who they are or if they’re where they’re meant to be.
lyrics
You reluctantly play the part
Cos you never know who you are
Stay up all night put the fires out
The emptiness has a charm
And I've been waiting here for hours
Holding out for some strange power to come
But in a fading age of running
We'll be dying not the inside to know
What we're going through
On another night she'd be glowing
In a different light he'd change
Remember now, we're gonna find a way to make it all worth while
In the end
There's nothing to say
Just open the door
You'll figure it out there's easier ways
Cos all around there's living proof that all we are
Is no more than we've seen and heard before
And if you're waiting there for hours
Holding out for some strange power to come
You know it's never gonna get easier
If you're dying on the inside to know
What you're going through
Going through
